Context 👀
Velutto is a premium coffee maker with a companion mobile app that lets users set up, control, and monitor the machine remotely, from first-time setup through daily use. The app also extends into a curated shop where users can discover and purchase exclusive beans and accessories.
The design challenge was unifying these three surfaces into a system that feels considered and consistent, without becoming cluttered or losing its sense of elegance.
Problem Statement 🥲
How might we design a mobile experience that lets users control and monitor the Velutto machine while also supporting a premium shopping experience for coffee and accessories?
Four things needed to be true throughout:
- The interface needed to keep system state clear and reliable at all times.
- Offer flexible control without overwhelming the user.
- Stay consistent across setup, brewing, monitoring, and shopping.
- And carry a calm, refined feel that matches the physical product it connects to.
Solution 💡
The experience was designed as a cohesive system that unifies onboarding, brewing, and commerce into a seamless journey.
Users are guided through setup and personalization, followed by a home experience that surfaces recommendations and key actions. Brewing balances simplicity and control through Quick and Advanced modes, while device status and scheduling support daily use.
A curated shop is integrated within the flow, making discovery and purchase feel natural and connected.
Seamless Onboarding
Effortless setup with device connection and preference personalization, ensuring users start with a tailored experience from the first interaction.
Smart Brewing Experience
Personalized recommendations powered by Alfred AI, with the flexibility to brew instantly or schedule ahead. Supports both quick interactions and advanced customization for deeper control.
Integrated Commerce
Seamlessly browse and purchase specialty coffees, equipment, and accessories, with recommendations aligned to user preferences and usage.
Reflections 💭
This project was a chance to work on a high-craft, consumer-facing experience and revisit mobile interaction patterns with a sharper focus on interaction quality and polish.
A big part of the challenge was making something that feels effortless on the surface, while still allowing deeper control for users who want it. Striking that balance between simplicity and depth was central to shaping the experience.
